The future is green and will soon turn to vegetable-tanned leather, the true ecological leather from animals for human consumption, which will coexist over time, with the new recycled and biodegradable materials.

Hacedora Lola is a project that creates and markets crafts made by hand, without machinery, recovering the oldest way of working leather that was known in the Mediterranean.

Leather goods and leather goods are mostly made with the skin of animals consumed by humans, recreating a new way of life and beauty that could end up as feed for other animals or used in agricultural practices.

Leather has been a by-product of our food chain since prehistoric times, so as long as we consume meat, making leather is a way of recycling animal waste.

The use of these skins is ecological but not only, also at an economic level it evidences the excellent quality of local craft production, distinguishing Spain from its massive competitors such as China, Africa.

The term ecological leather owes its name to the tanning process , since chemical processes that are harmful to the environment are not used in it. Vegetable extracts rich in tannins such as turmeric are used, which makes the process not negative for our planet.

The impact on its manufacture is very low due to the important existing environmental controls, such as the re-use of wastewater, if the remains generated by the meat industries were not used for the manufacture of leather, a huge surplus of skins would be produced of the food that would directly be waste.

You hear about synthetic leather as an ecological option, in turn, synthetic leather is made of plastics, its manufacture is carried out by the chemical industry, therefore, they will produce waste in their manufacture and the vast majority will not be completely biodegradable. Leather is still an eco-friendly option.

According to the Leather Naturally association, modern leather manufacturing recycles about 270 million cowhides a year, or about 7.3 million tons, that could otherwise go to waste and landfill. In this way, it can be said that leather is a sustainable material.

The future is green and will soon turn to vegetable-tanned leather, the true ecological leather from animals for human consumption, which will coexist over time, with the new recycled and biodegradable materials.
